The most disturbing thing I found out about Zardoz is that via a quick google search is that sci-fi people actually LOVE this movie. There's people out there that think this is some fine sort of cinema.

I found that "this is tantamount to Kurosawa" crowd online too. Most of them have a tongue in cheek element to them. I definitely need to see the director's commentary on this one. I hope his thoughts on his work are as "high concept" as this movie is.
